Athletics Announcement - September 3, 2021

In just the few home games that we have hosted so far, I have already received several compliments about our teams and facilities from some visiting teams and some of our own families.  I wanted to take a moment to say a quick Thank You to our facilities team for keeping our building and grounds in such great shape, our coaches for making character a high expectation with their teams, and to the parents for raising up some very respectful young men and women.

A brief recap to the start of the seasons:

HS Soccer: The guys had two big wins this week winning 3-0 over #6 (4A) Centaurus and 10-0 over CSCS.  The JV team keeps working hard and saw their best game of the season against Centaurus in a 2-0 loss

HS Volleyball: Varsity started their season on Tuesday as all three levels swept KIPP.  They open up the league schedule at Lutheran on Wednesday and then next weekend is the 8th year for the JA Sideout Showdown.

HS XC: Evan Mills and Sean Beasley both finished in the top ten at the Horizon Invitational to lead the guys to a second place finish.  Maya Ross, Tessa Stadler, and Sarah Welsch finished 13, 14, 15  to lead the girls to a fourth place finish.  Their next meet is this afternoon at Broomfield Commons.

HS Golf: The guys are halfway through their season already.  Jack McLucas finished T-20 at the Windsor invitational and Ethan Runyon finished T-22 at the Lutheran League meet.  Their next tournament is on Tuesday at CommonGround GC.

JH Volleyball: The girls had two big sweeps this week with both the B and A teams winning their matches on Tuesday against Flatirons Academy and on Thursday against Lincoln Academy.  They face two tough league foes next week against Prospect Ridge and Peak to Peak

JH Soccer: Coach Williams’ team had an impressive 7-1 win against the crosstown opponent Lincoln Academy.  They look to keep the momentum going next week against Faith Christian and Peak to Peak.

We are starting the process to add girls softball next fall!  I am really excited for this because I think we have been ready for a while and we have some very talented Jaguars.  The first step I would like to take is to hire a new head coach to help get us off the ground.  If you have experience coaching softball and are up to the challenge, or if you know somebody who would be a good fit for this position, please email me your interest at cmelville@jajags.com.

A reminder that we are back to charging for JV and Varsity home games.  The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.  Children under 4 are free.  Credit cards and Venmo are now available as payment options if you don’t want to use cash or check.  Activity passes are also available to get you into all home games.  They are $25 for a student pass, $60 for an adult pass, or $125 for a family pass.  Please contact Mrs. Larson (jlarson@jajags.com) for more information about purchasing an activity pass.

You can also earn a Metro pass to get you into all home and league games by doing 10 volunteering shifts at our home games or a 1-day shift at our volleyball tournament.  Please contact Mrs. Chichirico (schichirico@jajags.com) for more information about volunteering.

The locker rooms will be available for in-season athletes.  Athletes will be able to use them only to store their bags during the school day.  We don’t want students going in and out of the locker rooms all day, so the locker rooms will be locked from 8:30-3:25.  Their bags will not be accessible during the school day.  The only exceptions will be for early releases and for junior high D-block teams.  If you would like to check out a locker, please see Coach Sharpley before or after school.  You will need to complete this agreement form and bring it to Coach in order to check out a lock.  You cannot use your own locks on the lockers.  The form will also be available on the Athletics Registration website.

A couple of announcements about fall basketball workouts:

  • All boys and girls high school students planning on playing basketball this year, please email coach Sharpley (msharpley@jajags.com) for fall information, pre-season workouts, and study material for the 21/22 basketball library document for skills and strategies.

  • 7th and 8th-grade girls planning on trying out for middle school basketball and would like to participate in a fall league, please email Coach Sharpley (msharpley@jajags.com)

The concession stands are back open.  If you would like to help raise money for your sport or club, please sign up to work during one of our home games.  You will need to go through the training if you have not already worked concessions and you can contact Amanda Beck for more information about those times.

Thank you so much and we look forward to a great season!

Game schedules are now available online.  You can find those on the Team Schedules website.  As we learned last year, much can change during the course of a season.  Be sure to check with the schedules frequently for any changes.  They are live links with the most up-to-date adjustments.

You can support JA Athletics by helping to fill those empty spaces below our scoreboards.  We have spots available in our main gym, the auxiliary gym, and on the soccer/lacrosse field.  If you have a business interested in sponsoring a square, check out our flyer or contact Craig Melville (cmelville@jajags.com).  So far we have already had six of the spots filled but there are more if your business would like to show their support for JA Athletics.

If you are interested in getting a letter jacket, our supplier, Sportline, is undergoing some changes.  They have recently merged with BSN sports.  Their website is undergoing some upgrades and so they are only taking walk-in orders or over-the-phone orders at this time.  Their new location is on the east side of Wadsworth in that shopping center off of 64th.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all of our scores and updates @JA_Athletics and on Instagram @jefferson_academy_athletics
