Happy New Year!


5th-12th grade Families & Friends - Online Movie Screening-Screenagers Next Chapter

Tickets are available NOW. Online screening is open from January 9th - January 23rd.


Many of you joined us for the screening of Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age when we hosted back in October. Join us again, or for the first time, for the screening of Screenagers Next Chapter: Addressing Mental Health in the Digital Age—a film that examines the science behind teen’s emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age. 


Students in grades 7th-12th will be watching this in B block class on January 11th. Parents, siblings, friends can sign-up for the online movie screening available from January 9th-23rd. Families select 1 ticket and will be sent a link to the movie. Multiple tickets are only needed for separate households. Get your ticket here:

Volunteer Opportunity-Concessions

Are you interested in raising funds for your student’s club, sport or activity? If so, you can work the concession stands at athletic events throughout the school year. Available dates can be found at:



Esports will begin the new season next week. There will be an informational meeting on Monday, January 9th, right after school until 4 if students are interested in joining esports. Some of the potential games are Overwatch 2, Valorant, Minecraft Survival, Rocket League, Halo, and more. Come to the meeting on Monday after school in Room 202 to learn more. We are also looking for people to support esports with social media, shoutcasting, and marketing so if you have an interest in that come to the meeting as well.


Computer Science Bootcamp

Computer Science Honor Society (CSHS) is partnering with Software Freedom School to bring Linux and DevOps classes to JA. On Saturday, January 21, from 9 am to 1 pm we will host a beginner Linux class. On Saturday, January 28, from 9 am to 1 pm we will host an Intro to DevOps. Lunch is not provided. Linux is an open-source operating system (OS) and is the cornerstone of the Internet these days. DevOps will teach the basics of DevOps. From Linux to AWS, Gitlab to containers, all the basic components of DevOps are included. The cost to attend both classes is $25 or $15 for one. If this cost is a hardship for you, please see Ms. Davis in Room 202. Please use this Google Form to sign up as we must limit attendance to 30 due to space constraints.


SLAB Read-in and Book Clubs for January

For the month of January, SLAB is celebrating Self-Love month and our book clubs and decor focus on books that highlight loving yourself for who you are. High School Book Club is reading "Loveless" by Alice Oseman and will discuss the book on February 3rd during high school lunch. Junior High is reading "Gracefully Grayson" by Ami Polonsky and will discuss the book on February 1st during Junior High Lunch. Students interested in reading one of the books can stop by the library to pick up a copy. On January 26th we will have a Read-In after school in the library from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. There will be snacks and door prizes. Bring a book (or borrow one) and join us for some reading time.


JEFFCON - Student Technology Conference

JEFFCON is a one-day, interactive event that allows high school students to learn about various IT roles from experienced Jeffco staff and industry professionals, and explore various career paths in the field of IT. In 2017, the Jeffco Public Schools IT department established Jeffcon as an annual student technology conference. This year Jeffcon will be Friday, February 3, from 10 am to 4:30 pm at Arvada West High School. Lunch is provided. Students must register with Jeffco by Friday, January 13th to attend. Permission packets will be delivered to students after the online registration with the district. Email Ms. Davis [email protected] if you have any questions.
