Athletics Announcement - October 14, 2021

A brief recap for each fall sport:

JH Volleyball:  Our junior high fall sports ended their seasons this last week.  The B-team ran the board and went undefeated for the season, capping it with a league championship.  The A-team also had a strong season but could not get past Faith Christian who they faced in their last two matches.

JH Soccer:  Boys soccer had a rough start to their season but started to come together towards the end.  They wrapped up their season grinding out two ties against Prospect Ridge and Boulder Country Day.

JH XC:  Our middle school league meet was last week and the Jags had another strong showing with our girls finishing 2nd and the boys finishing 5th.  Keely McCormick won the race on the girls side and Liam Wall was the top JA finisher for the boys coming in at 5th.  The Jags host their own meet this Friday, 10/15 at Northwest Open Space.  The girls start at 3:30 and the boys begin at 4:00.

HS XC: Our high school team had a record setting week.  They also ran their league meet last week and had the highest finish for a girls team, at league, in school history!  The girls finished second and the boys wrapped up back-to-back league titles.  Evan Mills (2nd), Sean Beasley (3rd), and Noah Douglas (10th) all finished in the top 10 in the boys race while Maya Ross (5th), Sara Welsch (10th), and Tessa Stadler (11th) led the Jags in the girls race.  Next up for them is regionals at Lyons HS next week.

HS Soccer:  The HS boys soccer team continues to make headlines.  For the first time in program history they won at Colorado Academy (1-0).  They played to a draw against 4A Holy Family and will resume league play on Thursday against Peak to Peak.  Currently the guys are ranked #1 in 3A in both the CHSAA and MaxPreps polls.

HS Volleyball: HS volleyball continues to battle it out for the #4 - #7 spots in the league standings. They have a little break before resuming their league matches on Tuesday against Peak to Peak.

IMPORTANT information for junior high sports:

  • Junior high boys basketball starts on Monday.  If you are enrolled in that class be sure to bring your gear.  If you need a locker, you will need to fill out the Locker Room Agreement form found on our Athletic Registration website and bring that in to Coach Sharpley either before or after school.  Gym lockers are only available to in-season athletes.
  • Junior high girls’ basketball tryouts will be held on October 21st from 3:30pm-6:00pm in the Auxiliary Gym. Please fill out this form by noon on October 19th.
  • Junior high boys and girls track and field.  This is a new sport we are adding this spring.  The events should be pretty similar to that as the high school meets, but will also depend on what we have the athletes for.  It will take place during D block.  If you are interested in joining, please fill out the JH Track and Field Sign Up form.
  • If you were in junior high soccer or volleyball and had checked out a locker, please clean those out immediately and turn your lock back in to Coach Sharpley.  The only exception is if you are playing on the boys basketball team this quarter.

Winter sports will be starting before we know it.  We will hold a parent and player meeting for anyone interested in playing high school basketball this season.  The meeting will be on November 4th at 7:00 pm in the Commons.  Yes, we are going back to in-person meetings.  Registration is open for high school basketball and physicals need to be submitted before the start of the season.

We are still interviewing candidates for the Head Girls Softball Coach.  If you have experience coaching softball and are up to the challenge of starting a new program, or if you know somebody who would be a good fit for this position, please email me your interest at

The concession stands are back open.  If you would like to help raise money for your sport or club, please sign up to work during one of our home games.  You will need to go through the training if you have not already worked concessions and you can contact Amanda Beck for more information about those times.

Thank you so much and we look forward to a great season!

Game schedules are now available online.  You can find those on the Team Schedules website.  As we learned last year, much can change during the course of a season.  Be sure to check with the schedules frequently for any changes.  They are live links with the most up-to-date adjustments.

You can support JA Athletics by helping to fill those empty spaces below our scoreboards.  We are getting closer to filling up all the spaces.  We have only 1 space left in the main gym and 1 space left on the soccer field.  If you have a business interested in sponsoring a square, check out our flyer or contact Craig Melville (

If you are interested in getting a letter jacket, our supplier, Sportline, is undergoing some changes.  They have recently merged with BSN sports.  Their website is undergoing some upgrades and so they are only taking walk-in orders or over-the-phone orders at this time.  Their new location is on the east side of Wadsworth in that shopping center off of 64th.
