Athletics Announcements: May 19, 2023

Good afternoon Jags,

State is upon us and the Jags are doing great. For the last two days, track & field has competed at the 3A State Championships with many athletes moving on to finals. Today alone, our girls 4X200m relay team placed 5th in the finals with many more final events to compete tomorrow.

Last night the girls soccer team won 3-1 over Metro rival Colorado Academy. They will move on to the State Championship game against Manitou Springs on Tuesday at 5:30pm. The game will take place at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and only electronic tickets will be accepted. You can purchase here to be prepared when you get to the gate Tuesday. Tomorrow, the baseball squad heads to Greeley for their regional state games with the winner moving on to the double-elimination state tournament. They will see University to start the day at 10:00am.

As you probably have seen, Jeffco is raising their athletic participation fee. After consideration and budgeting for the upcoming school year, we will also be increasing our high school athletic fees for 2023-24. There are a variety of reasons we need to make this adjustment including increased costs related to equipment and supplies. The most pressing, however, is the fact that the cost to provide officials will increase by 35% next year as a result of CHSAA’s push to recruit/retain high school officials. During the current school year we spent nearly $50,000 in officials fees. Additionally, JA’s commitment to ensure we have an athletic trainer on site to take care of our student-athletes, in addition to the cost of tournament & competition entry fees has exceeded what our current athletic budget can handle. Other area Metropolitan League high schools we compete against are raising their fees as well, averaging $230 next year with the highest charging $250 per sport. Considering all the information we were presented with, Jefferson Academy’s athletic fees for next year will increase to $225 for all sports except golf, which will increase to $325. Junior high athletic fees will remain $130 per sport. We will never prevent a student from participating at JA due to financial constraints, so make sure to talk to us in the athletic office if you want to participate, but are concerned about costs.

Additionally next year, our student activity pass which was $35 this year will go up to $40. This is $25 less than Jeffco’s student activity pass which will be $65.

As always you can find the most up-to-date athletic information on our athletic website at https://jaathletics.com/ and depending on your preference our social media (Facebook/Instagram/Twitter).

Good luck to all our athletes competing this weekend and next week!

We hope you have a great weekend and GO JAGS!
