Athletics Announcement - May 9, 2022

Thank you to all of our Seniors as we celebrate you this past week!  Thank you for your dedication on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.  You are an outstanding group that has represented the Black and Gold well.

A quick update of where our high school teams are at:
  • Track had a huge weekend at the Metro League Championship Meet.  The girls won the team championship squeaking by Lutheran and the boys to 2nd, again to Lutheran.  Aren’t they in 4A, yet?

  • Lacrosse had what Coach Hughes called the “biggest win in program history” with a comeback win over #10 league rival, Dawson.  That win sealed a postseason berth and puts them in contention to host a playoff game.  Check out the action from the game (

  • Girls Soccer had a big win on their Senior Night against Lutheran.  The girls lost their matchup with Kent but ended up with 2nd seed overall for playoffs.

  • Baseball is looking strong going into the league crossover games.  They are currently at #16 in 3A with several big games left to play.  The square off for a double-header against league rival Prospect Ridge this weekend.

  • Girls golf is wrapping up their season.  They have their league meet on Wednesday and regionals on the 24th.  The girls team will be the host school for the 3A state tournament at the end of the month.  The event will take place at the Broadlands and will be the second time JA has hosted.

Junior High sports update:

  • Girls soccer continues to roll.  They will look to go into the league tournament this Wednesday as the #1 seed.

  • The baseball teams had their games canceled this week, but they continue to grow and improve.  They wrap up their season this week with a home and away against Dawson.

  • JH Track and field also had their meet canceled this week.  It has been great to see them do as well as they have in the meets they have been able to get in.  They have one more left this week up in Windsor.

Playoffs are here!  Both Boys Lacrosse and Girls Soccer have advanced to their postseason tournaments.

  • Boys lacrosse (#20) plays at Telluride (#13) on Tuesday.  The game will be at 4:00 in Telluride.  We will send out information if the game is being streamed.

  • Girls soccer (#2) plays against Monteuma-Cortez (#31) on Thursday.  We will host this game at 6:30.  There is a gate charge for this event and unfortunately, activity passes or Metro passes cannot be accepted.

The dates for junior high volleyball tryouts have been set and they will take place on May 10th and 11th.  They will be held in the main gym from 3:30-5:00.

JH Boys Basketball: 6th and 7th grade boys! Junior high basketball is offered as an elective for 7th and 8th graders at JA. Boys’ basketball practices take place in the 2nd quarter during D block. If you are interested in playing next year, tryouts will be held at the secondary school (11251 Reed Way) on May 16 from 3:45 - 5:45 p.m. Come dressed and ready to play and bring a water bottle. If you cannot attend the tryout, you must contact Mrs. Chichirico in the athletic department prior to tryouts.  If you have any questions, please contact Shayna Chichirico at [email protected]. All interested players are required to fill out this form by May 13 at noon.

Junior High Boys Soccer is planning to conduct tryouts for the Fall 2022 Soccer season in August 2022 prior to the start of our school year (The Tryout Dates for the Fall 2022 season will be August 9th, 10th and 11th, from 2 - 4 PM!)  Your player MUST attend two (2) of those three days to be considered for a spot on the team. This tryout will be open to any current 5th, 6th, or 7th grade boy that feels they have the skills and ability to compete at the Jr High school level.  If you have any questions, please contact Coach Williams at [email protected].

Standley Lake HS is looking for wrestlers.  They are starting up a new girls wrestling program next year and wanted to reach out to any boys or girls who are interested in wrestling for either their boys or girls teams.  For more information, reach out to Coach Alvadrado ([email protected]).

Game schedules are now available online.  You can find those on the Team Schedules website.  As we learned last year, much can change during the course of a season.  Be sure to check with the schedules frequently for any changes.  They are live links with the most up-to-date adjustments.

You can support JA Athletics by helping to fill those empty spaces below our scoreboards.  We are getting close to filling up all the spaces.  If you have a business interested in sponsoring a square, check out our flyer or contact Craig Melville ([email protected]).
