My name is Tegan Poulton and I am Jefferson Academy's Weight training and Freshman Seminar teacher! I come from the land down under, Australia, and currently working on my Masters Program in Educational Leadership at UNC. I am a former Olympic athlete, playing european handball for Australia for 8yrs, which is where my love for fitness and guiding students to become the best, healthiest version of themselves personally and personally came about! I am also a qualified personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach and have been for 7 years!

                                               About my classes
WEIGHT TRAINING
 My weight training class is designed and catered to students specific individual fitness and health goals. The main areas of focus in this class include muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular endurance, power, flexibility and balance. Students will learn specific body weight, weightlifting and powerlifting techniques, recovery techniques pre and post exercise, and will be able to design a weight­ training and conditioning program that is realistic, individual and attainable for the students specific goals. In addition to learning weightlifting techniques, students will learn about human anatomy, the importance of mind and body connection during physical activity, and specific spotting and safety practices during specific lifts.
FRESHMAN SEMINAR
My freshman seminar class is designed to guide and mentor students in discovering skills and steps to be successful personally, professionally and financially for the next 10 years.
Throughout this course, students will discover what ideas they have for their future, how to make those happen and what success means to them. Each student will be creating a 10 year plan that will give them a starting point to begin working towards their future. Although students may not know what they want to do over the next 10 years at this age, this course allows students to explore their strengths and interests, and will guide them into discovering how they can utilize their skills and strength throughout life.  We will also break down some of the adulthood necessities and real life skills that are needed to help them in their future.
